The Limited Service Volunteer() (LSV) is an intensive six-week course with the goal of teaching life and motivational skills to unemployed young people between 18 and 25. This course also prepares applicants for training or work as well as getting your first-aid certificate.
Run by New Zealand Defence Force’s Youth Development Unit on behalf of the Ministry of Social Development, trainees are volunteers apply through Work and Income(). This course is free and runs over several locations, including Green Bay, Auckland.
Applicants are put into an environment where they get some of the best leadership and mentors in the country and run on a strict military discipline basis with trainees issued uniforms and expected to address NZDF personnel by rank.
This intensive programme includes lectures, workshops and physical activities designed to develop core values of respect, teamwork and trust which boost self-esteem and self-confidence coupled with life skills such as budgeting, applying for jobs and managing an interview process.
Auckland DHB is involved with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and LSV Programme for a number of years in many different ways, such as presentations whilst on the programme, discussing career pathways, attending job fairs and offering job search advice to trainees. We’ve successfully recruited LSV graduates into areas such as LabPLUS, Patient Administrative Services and Orderly Services as well as the Central Sterile Supply Department.
